Ingredients
Our vodka lengthened with our own cordial. Leave the vodka out and it is a mocktail.
This is the drink to make when half the table is drinking and half is not, because the only difference between the two versions is one ingredient. Everyone gets the same glass, the same colour and the same garnish, which matters more than people admit.
Method
-
Fill a tall glass to the top with ice.
-
Add the vodka and the cordial and stir to combine before the soda goes in — mixing the two heavier liquids first is the only way to get an even drink.
-
Top with soda water.
-
Squeeze in the lime, stir once gently, and garnish with a lychee and mint.
-
For the jug, combine the vodka, cordial and lime slices first, add ice, then top with soda and stir once.
Tips
-
Taste and adjust the cordial. Twenty millilitres is a starting point, not a rule.
-
Make the non-alcoholic version look identical — same glass, same garnish. It is the easiest hospitality there is.
-
Freeze cordial diluted 1:5 into ice cubes and the drink strengthens as it melts instead of weakening.
