Neither of us set out to be lychee farmers; Paul grew up on a cattle property, Krystal was an educator. But we wanted the same thing: a rural business of our own, and a place to raise our family.
In 2016, just after Cyclone Marcia, we stood on a 16-hectare orchard at South Yaamba, near Rockhampton; fallen trees, long grass, broken netting. Where others saw a daunting rebuild, we saw our family's future.
We knew nothing about lychees, or horticulture, so we learnt by doing, making mistakes, asking many questions and the generosity of growers who shared their knowledge. Bit by bit, the orchard came back to life.
What began as an opportunity became Lush Lychees.
Today we're one of Australia's largest lychee orchards, home to around 9,000 trees.
Our fresh harvest season is short, just six weeks, from mid-December to late January. We supply premium lychees to international and Australian markets, and direct at our farm gate, packed from 5kg cartons to gift boxes and punnets.
Our fruit is not sulphur treated.
Every lychee is picked at its peak, when its natural sugars (brix) are just right, then cooled quickly and kept cold throughout the supply-chain (farm to shop), so its naturally bright, pinky-red colour, sweetness and flavour reach you just as they left our tree.
Cared for this way, our fresh lychees keep for up to two weeks in the fridge.
Grown, picked, graded, packed, delivered and presented: every stage shapes the fruit that reaches you. Taste the difference.
The season is short, but the fruit's potential isn't.
We never want good fruit to go to waste, so we've found more ways to share the crop year-round. It's how our range came to be.
Premium, hand-harvested lychees at peak ripeness, delivered to your doorstep.
Small-batch lychee jam, spiced lychee chutney, preserved whole lychees, sweet sauces, lychee balsamic vinegar and pure orchard honey.
Our lychee vodka and lychee liqueur capture the delicate floral and tropical notes of real orchard fruit.
Farm-gate open days, orchard tours, pick-your-own days and seasonal events, connecting our community.
We want to leave the land better than we found it.
So we're always looking for better ways to grow great fruit while caring for the resources our farm depends on. Under-tree micro-sprinklers and soil-moisture monitoring put water exactly where it's needed, high-density planting makes the most of productive land, and permanent netting protects the crop from birds, flying foxes and pests.
Our farming and food safety are independently certified: Hort 360 Certified for reef-friendly practices, GLOBALG.A.P. and our USA accreditation for food safety and export, and Sedex for ethical, responsible trade.
Farming well today is how we get to keep farming tomorrow.
At its heart, we're still a family farm.
We're always exploring what's possible with an Australian lychee: new products, new markets, new ways to grow and share it. That curiosity took Krystal around the world as a 2025 Nuffield Scholar, researching how family farms can capture more value from what they already have. Those lessons are shaping our next chapter.
But we're here for the reason we started: to build something of our own and raise our family on the land.
Whether you're enjoying a box of fresh summer lychees, a bottle of something we've made from them, or visiting to see where it all grows, thank you for supporting an Australian family farm.
From our orchard to you, a short season, grown with care and captured to enjoy for longer. — Paul, Krystal & Caton children
